COLUMBIA, S.C. - Persistent rain forced the suspension of Mississippi State's series-opening game against South Carolina Friday, with the Gamecocks holding a 2-0 lead after six innings. <br>

The game will be resumed at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sarge Frye Field, with game two of the series following the resumed game by 30 minutes. <br>

USC (23-14, 7-8 SEC) plated single runs in the first and second innings and put a runner in scoring position in five of the six innings off Mississippi St. starter Paul Maholm. <br>

USC starter Steven Bondurant allowed just two base runners on two hits through the first five frames. <br>

Mississippi St.'s record is (27-12-1, 10-4 SEC) going into the rest of the series. <br>

Rain, which peppered Columbia for most of the day Friday, returned in the second inning of Friday's game, eventually forcing the game's suspension at the end of the sixth.
