Stephenson, Parkview go for Class AAAAA girls crown

ATLANTA - Ashley Thomas scored 16 points, including 4-for-4 from the free throw line during an 8-0 fourth-quarter run, and Stephenson rallied past Bradwell Institute 48-44 Thursday in a semifinal game of the Girls AAAAA tournament. <br>

Stephenson will meet Parkview, which beat Riverdale 60-44 in the other semifinal, in the title game Friday night. <br>

Bradwell led 24-21 at halftime and 40-35 after three periods. But Stephenson (29-1) came back in the final period and led 45-42 when Bradwell's Tamekia Powell, who scored 24 points, cut the margin to 45-44 with a basket with 2:53 left. <br>

Nia Davis grabbed an offensive rebound for Stephenson and scored a basket with 1:03 left to make it 47-44, then came down with another rebound with 13 seconds left on a 3-point attempt by Bradwell. <br>

Parkview (29-3) was led by Katie Hamilton's 20 points in its victory over Riverdale. After five lead changes in the first quarter, the Panthers went on a 16-0 run in the last 1:04 that included a three-point play by Hamilton. <br>

Parkview held the Raiders (28-4) scoreless for nearly six minutes in the second quarter while building a 32-22 halftime lead. That lead doubled with the help of six third-quarter points by Jessica Geiger and a 3-pointer by Sarah Spivey. <br>

Brittany Baity and Dominique Philpots each scored 10 points for Riverdale.
