By By Scott Kimbler
CLAYTON - Rabun County authorities are looking for an escaped prisoner. The Sheriff's Office says Mitchell Duane James, 41 escaped Tuesday night from the Rabun County jail.

Jail Administrator Terry Brown says that James is described a White, 5'-11" tall with blond hair, blue eyes and weighing 180 pounds. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a white tank top shirt.

Brown says the James had been visiting with a minister in the visitation area and slid out the exit with a group of people that were leaving. Instigators do not believe the minister had anything to do with James escape.

Search dogs were brought in from Lee Arrendale Prison in Alto to assist in the search.

Brown says a lookout for James has been posted to the nationwide crime intelligence system (NCIC).

James was in the jail awaiting transport to a state facility for probation violation. He had a previous conviction of obstruction of government property and resisting arrest.

If anyone sees James, they are encouraged to contact police immediately. The Rabun County Sheriff's office can be reached at 706-782-3612.
