I'm tired of liberal entertainers making dumb statements about President Bush simply because they are celebrities who have instant access to the media. They almost always piously insist they have a right to speak out like the rest of us, and they do, but they should also recognize that the REASON they have access to the media is because they are entertainers, not knowledgeable political leaders.
The latest cheap shot at our president came from one of the Dixie Chicks who told an audience in London: "Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas." Now, if an average citizen, liberal of conservative, had said that it would have affected a few people. But because the Dixie Chicks are celebrity entertainers that line has echoed all over the world. And she had the gall to make that kind of antiAmerican statement on foreign soil, and then to defend it. Later, she tried to back off ... but by then we all knew where she stood.
The Dixie Chick is correct when she says that here in America she has a right to speak her mind. But America is also a free market country so I have a right never to buy another of her records, to turn off any radio station carrying one of her songs, to boycott any product being advertised on a radio or TV show in which the Dixie Chicks appear. And I'll do it. I'm through with them.
The fact is I am more upset with the Dixie Chicks than I would have been if that statement had come from the usual Hollywood liberal. You see, I grew up with country music and was weaned on Grand Ole Opry. I like country music and I like country musicians. In my book the Dixie Chicks are traitors, not only to America but also to everything good that country music stands for.
