Carolina shuts out Vandy

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Steven Bondurant held Vanderbilt to five hits as South Carolina beat the Commodores 2-0 on Friday and broke a four-game losing streak. <br> <br> Bondurant (3-1) struck out seven hitters and didn&#39;t walk a batter in the Gamecocks&#39; (17-9) first complete game shutout since defeating The Citadel 16-0 in the 2001 NCAA Regional Tournament. <br> <br> Jeremy Sowers (0-4) took the loss for the Commodores (13-11), allowing nine hits and striking out eight batters. <br> <br> South Carolina got its only earned run of the game in the second inning when Justin Harris scored on a hit by Kevin Melillo. Michael Campbell scored in the fourth on a hit by Jon Coutlangus. <br> <br> Warner Jones led Vanderbilt with three hits, including a double in the seventh that was the only extra base hit by either team.
