LSU beats Bama on the road

TUSCALOOSA, ALABAMA - Blake Gill had two hits and four RBI to lead LSU to a 10-6 win over Alabama Saturday, evening the three-game series at one game a piece.

The Tigers (17-9-1, 6-1-1 Southeastern Conference) pounded out 11 hits, including a homer and three RBI from Ivan Naccarata, and scored nine of their 10 runs with two outs.

The Crimson Tide (20-6, 5-3) struggled on offense, going just 1-for-4 with the bases loaded en route to leaving 14 men on base.

Zac Welch had three singles and two RBI to lead Alabama.

Saturday's game started much like Alabama's win Friday with the Tide jumping on top early.

Allen Rice hit an RBI-triple into the left field corner and scored on a single by Beau Hearod for a 2-0 lead after one. But more damage could have been done, as LSU starter Bo Pettit got out of a bases loaded-one out jam with no more runs.

LSU hit two home runs off losing pitcher Brent Carter in the third inning to take a 4-2 lead. Jon Zeringue hit a solo home run to right center field, his third homer in as many games and fourth in the last five. Naccarata added a three-run homer to right field to give the Tigers the lead.

Gill broke the game open in the fifth with a bases-loaded triple down the right field line, giving LSU a 7-2 lead.

Carter allowed seven earned runs and seven hits in 4 2-3 innings.

Pettit got the win, despite walking a career-high nine batters. He allowed four runs and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Jake Tompkins earned his second save of the season.
