SUWANEE - Volunteers in Suwanee are rescuing hundreds of native Georgia plants from construction on a new town park.
A member of the Georgia Native Plant Society -- Pat Montgomery -- is leading the effort to save the wild plants. He says he took up the cause so his grandchildren would be able to see beech tree, wild ginger, bay leaf and several other species.
The society has appealed to city officials, who agreed to allow volunteers to collect plants and place them in a a temporary nursery. The city also asked the volunteers to collect to donate at least one kind of plant they collected to a nursery area at a creek on the park site.
