Southeastern Flower Show moves to downtown Atlanta

ATLANTA - The Southeastern Flower Show is moving back downtown this year, with a five-day run beginning Wednesday at the Georgia World Congress Center. <br>

Atlanta architect Tom Ventulett - whose firm designed the World Congress Center - is credited with helping the show billed as the Southeast's largest gardening event secure the new location. <br>
<br>
The civic event dates back to the 1930s when a group of garden club ladies created the Atlanta Flower Show. That show ran until 1969. <br>
<br>
It was revived in 1987 in what is now the AmericasMart Atlanta. The show has raised more than $1.3 million for the Atlanta Botantical Garden. <br>
<br>
The regional event draws about 40,000 visitors a year. <br>
<br>
It former locations include Midtown Atlanta and the City Hall East Exhibition Center. <br>
<br>
In 2000, the show moved to the Atlanta Exposition Center at Interstate 285, south of Atlanta.
