Former Clark Atlanta football coach Curtis Crockett dies

ATLANTA - Former Clark Atlanta University football player and coach Curtis Crockett has died of cancer. He was 63. <br> <br> The McDonough native went to Clark Atlanta in 1958 and lettered in three sports each of his four years. He played football, basketball and was a three-time conference champion in shot put and discus. <br> <br> Crockett joined the football coaching staff at historically black Clark Atlanta as a graduate assistant in 1963. He was an assistant until 1999, when he was elevated to head coach. After posting an 8-16 record with three games remaining on the 2001 schedule, he was relieved of his duties. <br> <br> Crockett tried out for the Baltimore Colts and the Atlanta Falcons, but was cut in the preseason. <br> <br> He died Saturday at a hospital. Survivors include his wife, Deborah Crockett; a son; two brothers; a half brother; and a sister.
