North Georgia family accused of illegally selling guns at flea market

ATLANTA - A northwest Georgia man was sentenced Wednesday to 18 months in federal prison for taking part in a family business that sold hundred of guns illegally at a flea market. <br>

Gregory Shannon Christol, 25, of Rocky Face and his parents were indicted in August on charges selling firearms without a license. According to the indictment, 26 of the weapons were later used in crimes in Georgia, Tennessee, Illinois and Mexico. <br>
<br>
Christol's father, Kenneth, 55, was sentenced Jan. 17 to three years in prison, and his mother, Colleen, 52, was sentenced to four years' probation and fined $2,400. <br>
<br>
According to the indictment, Kenneth Christol rented space at Big D's Flea Market in Dalton. Family members purchased guns that were sold at the flea market without required background checks. <br>
<br>
Gregory Christol, a former Whitfield County sheriff's deputy, bought one gun that later was used in the shooting of a police officer in the Chicago area, according to evidence presented at his sentencing.
