ATLANTA - A huge beam that will be part of a major bridge in downtown Atlanta will disrupt traffic on Interstate 75 this weekend as it travels up from Tampa, Florida.
The beam -- which weighs nearly 300,000 pounds -- is 14 feet tall and about 100 feet long. It's one of the heaviest of the 48 total beams that will be part of the 17th Street bridge over Interstate 75-85 in Atlanta.
The Georgia Department of Transportation says the truck carrying the beam left Tampa Friday morning. It will travel overnight up I-75 through Georgia and is scheduled to arrive at the construction site Sunday morning.

Because of the beam's size, the truck can travel only 30 mph and will occupy two lanes of I-75 during the trip.
The DOT says traffic will be slowed, especially where I-75 is only two lanes wide.
