AUGUSTA - Augusta officials have unveiled a new statue of General James Edward Oglethorpe -- the founder of Georgia and of Augusta.
The city dedicated the life-size bronze statue Thursday. British Member of Parliament Virginia Bottomley -- who serves the same district that Oglethorpe did in the mid-1700s -- was among those at ceremony.
Bottomley said Oglethorpe's work for freedom and social reform still holds meaning.
