Woman dead after jumping from bridge during police chase

AUGUSTA - Police said a woman jumped to her death from a bridge after leading officers on a slow-speed chase. <br> <br> Michelle Renee Johnson, 33, of North Augusta, leaped about 50 feet and landed on a bed of rocks below River Watch Parkway on Friday, deputy coroner Mark Bowen said. She was pronounced dead at about 10:15 p.m. <br> <br> An autopsy was to be performed at the state crime lab in Atlanta. <br> <br> The chase, which stretched from South Carolina to Richmond County, started after police tried to stop Johnson&#39;s vehicle after she made an improper turn.
