KENNESAW - Cobb County's school system, Georgia's second-largest, has seen an increasing number of minorities enroll in recent years, as black and Hispanic students now make up a third of the district's 100,000 students.
Over the weekend, the school system sought to make sure its teachers reflect that change.
The district held its first minority recruitment fair Saturday at Kennesaw Mountain High School.
Teachers of minority race and ethnicity make up just 14 percent of the district's 73-hundred teachers.
In past years, the district tried to recruit minority candidates through general employment fairs. This time, the district asked staffers to recommend people, it posted the diversity recruitment fair information on its Web site and it sent letters to all historically black colleges and universities throughout the Southeast.
The fair drew more than 130 minority teacher applicants.
