ATLANTA - State health officials say there is a statewide increase in flu cases.
This year the virus has hit Georgia children particularly hard, and some schools have had to close because of low attendance.

Most of the recent positive samples have been of the type-A strain of the virus. Three of the random samples are from Atlanta and two from Savannah. A sample each was from Evans, Forsyth and Douglasville.
Health officials say a type-B strain also has been confirmed in the northwest town of Summerville.
Seventeen previous samples have been from Atlanta and Augusta.
Health officials say it's not too late to get flu shots. People with weakened immune systems and the elderly especially are encouraged to get flu shots.
