NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE - Arkansas coach Stan Heath didn't like what he saw when the Razorbacks lost to LSU 75-56 last Saturday.

``I felt like we had to get that game out of our system,'' said Heath, who called his Razorbacks back into the gym for a rare Sunday practice. ``Everybody came and worked hard. We got a lot accomplished.''

Arkansas came out Wednesday night and accomplished a lot as well, posting its first road win in 16 tries with a 60-50 victory over Vanderbilt.

``We learned a lot from that last game,'' said freshman Eric Ferguson, who scored a team-high 14 points. ``Coach worked us really hard the next practice.''

The practice paid off, as Arkansas (8-16, 3-10 Southeastern Conference) snapped a five-game losing streak. The Razorbacks held Vanderbilt (10-14, 3-10) to 30 percent shooting and outrebounded the Commodores 46-40.

``I'm real happy for the guys,'' Heath said. ``They've been saying they wanted a happy plane ride home and wanted to savor a victory on someone else's home court. To see those guys smiling and joking in the locker room, I'm happy for them.''

Arkansas started fast against Vanderbilt, avoiding the disastrous start it experienced against LSU when the Razorbacks trailed 24-2.

``The LSU game hurt, because we got blown out right away and had no chance to win,'' said Jonathan Mordica, who scored 12 points in 19 minutes. ``We had a better mindset today.''

Arkansas built an 18-10 lead by nailing four of its first five 3-pointers. Vanderbilt rallied and created a 29-29 halftime tie, but Arkansas built a lead early in the second half and never let it go.

``We told them we were going to enjoy ourselves and have some enthusiasm,'' Heath said. ``It really showed up at the defensive end. They played with some intensity.''

Vanderbilt's 30 percent field goal shooting and 50-point total were season-lows.

``The game was lost on our offensive end,'' said Vanderbilt coach Kevin Stallings, whose team lost its sixth straight. ``We got the ball inside, but our guys didn't score with it.''

Arkansas had 20 points off the bench, led by guard Kendrick Davis, who scored 11. Davis was 3-for-6 from 3-point range and played down the stretch instead Mordica, the team's leading scorer.

``I just felt Davis was playing well, and when we go three guards, were a little too small,'' Heath said. ``We got contributions from a lot of people tonight.''

Dionisio Gomez scored 10 points and Rashard Sullivan had nine rebounds for Arkansas.

Matt Freije had 15 points for Vanderbilt and Scott Hundley had 11 rebounds.
