<p>A Columbus hospital that specializes in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine has named a new president and CEO.</p><p>Donald Avery, 47, was named president and CEO effective Jan. 12, said officials with Columbus Regional Healthcare System, which runs Hughston Sports Medicine Hospital. Avery replaces Hugh Tapan, who had the job for five years.</p><p>Avery, a former U.S. Air Force jet pilot who has been senior vice president at Columbus Regional Healthcare, said he wants the hospital to forge new alliances with other health-care providers in Columbus.</p><p>If they could find common ground, the people of Columbus really come out ahead, he said.</p><p>Tappan has been named CEO of the 650-bed Presbyterian-St. Lukes Medical Center in Denver.</p>
