Some Commerce water-sewer rates may go up 58%

By by Ken Stanford
COMMERCE - Some people in Commerce will be paying almost 60 percent more in water-sewer rates beginning the first of the year.

City officials say the rate hikes - ranging from 17 to 58 percent - are necessary to help pay for a new nine million dollar sewage treatment plant.

A 58 percent hike is facing residents who use 3,000 gallons of water or more per month. At the other end of the spectrum are people using 2,000 gallons or less; they are looking at a 17 percent rate hike.
