FORT VALLEY - LaGrange won its second Class AAA state title in three seasons Saturday night, beating Peach County 16-7.
The Grangers, who defeated Cedartown two years ago for the championship, sealed the game with 2:22 left when a herd of tacklers pressured Peach quarterback A.J. Bryant in his end zone and he was flagged for intentional grounding, giving the Grangers a safety.
It was LaGrange's ninth state title in school history and the last three, including Saturday night's win, have been on the road.
The Grangers (14-1) held Peach to just 188 yards of total offense. The Trojans (13-2) had the ball inside LaGrange's 5-yard line twice and failed to score.
The first possession resulted in a fumble. On Peach's last drive inside the 5, LaGrange sacked Bryant on three consecutive plays to turn the ball over on downs.
Granger quarterback Thad Todd scored on a 1-yard run, then tossed a 38-yard strike to Demoreo Ford for a 14-0 first half lead. Todd passed for 72 yards, all in the first half.
LaGrange sacked Bryant, who entered the game with more than 2,000 yards passing, five times and provided constant pressure.
Peach's only touchdown came on a LaGrange miscue. A fumbled punt near midfield was recovered by Darius Newberry, setting up Tony Wright's 1-yard run three plays later to make it 14-7.
Justin Patterson led the Grangers on the ground with 89 yards.
