ATLANTA - New doses of the flu vaccine are expected in Georgia this week.
Georgia is purchasing 100,000 doses of the vaccine from a private Arkansas vendor in a $1.65 million deal.
The markup on the shots is more than double what the vaccine would have cost before the flu season started. It's also double what the government recently paid for additional flu shots for states.
A spokesman for the Georgia Division of Public Health - Richard Quartarone - says the shots will be made available before Christmas.
The state is buying 10,000 vials of vaccine for a price of $16.50 cents a shot. Earlier this flu season, health departments typically bought the shots for about $8 a dose.
