AUBURN, ALABAMA - Auburn has fired director of football operations Eldon Hawley for an unspecified violation of university policy.<br>

University officials declined to comment Monday on the reasons for Hawley's dismissal, citing a policy of not discussing personnel matters.<br>

``There are certain types of conduct that Auburn University and the Auburn athletic department will not tolerate,'' according to a statement through spokeswoman Meredith Jenkins. ``It is Auburn's policy to take swift, decisive action for immediate discharge when an employee's actions cross that line.''<br>

Hawley, 64, came to Auburn from Mississippi with head coach Tommy Tuberville in 1998 and was responsible for overseeing the football program's day-to-day operations.<br>

He has been involved in high school, junior college and college athletics for 42 years.
