Freezing temps, frost in north Georgia

UNDATED - As expected temperatures were at or below freezing for the first time this year in many places in north Georgia Tuesday morning, including Gainesville.

It was 28 in Gainesville at daybreak but mid 20s were common in the mountains - 26 in Blairsville and several other places; 29 in Cleveland and Cornelia; and, 28 in Dawsonville. To the south , it was 29 in Buford.

Some places reported their first frost of the season.

Lows tonight are expected to dip into the 30s.

The National Weather Service says Thanksgiving Day will be cloudy in the morning, with skies clearing by afternoon. Forecasters predict a high of about 60.

A quarter inch of rain feel in Gainesville Monday - and as the cold front moved rapidly into north Georgia, temperatures in Gainesville dropped 25 degrees in the 24-hour period ending at midnight Monday.

Winds gusted to near 30 miles an hour during the day in Gainesville.
