<p>Nehemiah Broughton ran for 127 yards and two touchdowns, including the game winner with 1:09 to play, to give The Citadel a 28-24 victory over Georgia Southern on Saturday.</p><p>The Southern Conference triumph, the Bulldogs fourth straight, kept them on the heels of Wofford in the conference race. The Citadel is now 5-3, 4-1, and they will host the league leaders next week. Southern, winners of the last six conference crowns, fell to 4-4, 2-3.</p><p>The Citadel led 21-0 before Southern rallied and appeared on the way to victory when it got the football back leading 24-21 with 7:46 to play. Southern reeled off three first downs before Anthony Roberts recovered Brandon Andrews fumble at The Citadel 48. Broughton scoring on a 1-yard run nine plays later with 2:09 to play.</p><p>The Citadel, seeking only its third Southern Conference championship and first since 1992, scored on its first three possessions behind the play of quarterback Willie Simmons and Broughton.</p><p>Simmons, who completed 15 of 26 passes for 182 yards, hit his first nine as he directed scoring drives of 67, 80 and 80 yards. The scores came on a 13-yard pass to Scooter Johnson, a 2-yard run by Simmons and a 2-yard run by Broughton.</p><p>Southern scored cut the lead to 21-7 on Kevin Andersons 13-yard run with 1:31 left in the first half.</p><p>Chaz Williams, who had missed the last three games with a knee injury, scored on a two-yard run in the third period and the Eagles tied it 21-21 one minute into the fourth period on a 9-yard run by Kevin Davis. Georgia Southern then took the lead at 24-21 with 10:40 remaining on a 22-yard field goal by Sean Holland following a blocked punt.</p><p>Brougton finished with 127 yards while Simmons added 25 yards rushing to 182 passing. Southerns Jermain Austin added to his league-leading rushing total with 160 yards to give him 1,067 for the year. Williams added 107 yards, including a 64 yard run.</p>
