OXFORD, MISSISSIPPI - Mississippi running back Jamal Pittman had successful reconstruction surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee Wednesday.
Ole Miss athletic trainer Tim Mullins said the surgery revealed no additional damage.
Pittman was injured against Arkansas State when he was hit while diving for the end zone at the end of a 15-yard run.
The redshirt freshman is out for the season.
Pittman had a similar injury to his right knee in the spring.
``We're looking at basically the same format when it comes to Jamal's latest rehabilitation,'' Mullins said. ``He's in good spirits and ready to begin his rehab on Thursday.''
Pittman missed the season opener, but played in five games. He is fourth on the team in rushing with 214 yards on 42 carries with one touchdown.
