COLLEGE PARK - A man who led College Park police on a high-speed car chase was shot to death Wednesday by an officer. <br>

The driver was suspected of threatening his girlfriend at a motel. When College Park police responded to the call and tried to talk to him, he sped away in a stolen car. <br>

The suspect, whose name was not released, tried to run over an officer when College Park police caught up with him. Fulton County police Maj. Wenda Phifer said the officer then fired into the vehicle. <br>

The driver still tried to get away despite being wounded, officials said. He later died in the car. <br>

The officer involved in the shooting was placed on administrative leave, a routine procedure pending investigation. <br>
<br>
It was the second fatal police shooting in two days. <br>

Gwinnett County police identified a man shot to death Tuesday during a six-hour standoff. Buddy Merck, 45, barricaded himself in a house after he stabbed his sister with a screwdriver, police said.
