COLUMBIA, S.C. - South Carolina center Marius Petravicius will be out for at least two weeks after injuring his left knee in the first half of the Gamecocks' 66-50 win over The Citadel.
But center Tony Kitchings has been cleared to practice after he had surgery on his broken hand last month. It's uncertain if Kitchings, who hasn't played since Nov. 29, will see action against Ole Miss in the Gamecocks' Southeastern Conference opener.
Petravicius, a 6-foot-10 senior, had an MRI done Friday and team doctors say he tore part of his anterior cruciate ligament. There is little swelling, no cartilage damage and he will not need surgery, the school said.
South Carolina coach Dave Odom said Petravicius will be evaluated again in two weeks. He was averaging 5.6 points a game and 3.4 rebounds.
