SAVANNAH - The Pitney Bowes Direct mailing business is shutting down its Savannah call center, which employs 200 people.
The employees can relocate to a location in another part of the country, but those who don't will be out of work March seventh.
The Savannah center is part of Pitney Bowes Direct, a division of the four billion dollar mailing and document management giant that caters mostly to small-business owners. This work will be picked up by centers in Connecticut; Washington State, New York State and Appleton.
Jan Carpenter -- director of operations for Savannah -- said some employees have already expressed an interest in relocating.
Workers in the Savannah call center help Pitney Bowes customers sort out billing questions, answer postal queries and do some sales and telemarketing. Salaries start at $21,000 and can reach $45,000 for some sales positions.
