DECATUR - The new dress code in DeKalb County goes into effect Tuesday for elementary and middle school students.

Students will be limited to wearing shirts in two school-selected colors and two districtwide colors. Individual campuses also have determined acceptable colors and styles of pants, skirts and shoes.

The only exception will be for students whose parents have obtained an exemption.
DeKalb County School Superintendent Johnny Brown proposed ``Dress for Success'' to mixed reactions in July. Critics said the district had gone too far in deciding what students could wear.
Proponents call the new dress code the best way to create a learning environment that is free of distractions.
High school students won't be required to comply with the new dress code until next fall.
