Athens-Clarke mayor looks to capitalize on inexperience

ATHENS - No one in Athens is sure what to expect of political newcomer Heidi Davison when she&#39;s sworn in a mayor of Athens-Clarke County Tuesday. <br> <br> The former schoolteacher beat incumbent Doc Eldredge in September as voters embraced her fresh approach to politics. While supporters have praised her idealism, opponents have criticized her inexperience. <br> <br> Davison tells the Athens Banner-Herald that she&#39;s told people even she doesn&#39;t know what kind of mayor she&#39;ll be. She says that with any new job ``there&#39;s always something there to learn and to grow into.&#39;&#39; <br> <br> Voters embraced Davison&#39;s message of open government and slowed growth. She says she&#39;s not against development but that business interests should not take precedence over the well-being of the community.
