FORT STEWART - Georgia soldiers at Fort Stewart deploying for a possible war with Iraq got a pep talk Tuesday from Governor-elect Sonny Perdue.
Perdue told 200 troops from the Army's Third Infantry Division, ``We want you to make us proud. We want you to do what you're trained to do. Make us proud as patriots.''
The Third Infantry, which specializes in desert warfare, has received orders to deploy its entire force of 17,000 soldiers to Kuwait.
One of the division's three combat brigades has been training in Kuwait since September. The rest of the troops began flying out late Monday.
The troops will continue to train in the desert, including exercises in urban warfare, says Major General Buford C. Blount the Third. But he declined to speculate on a possible invasion of Iraq.
