Officer kills suspected robber

RICHMOND HILL - A police officer shot and killed a 17-year-old in a motel parking lot early Friday while investigating a truck stop robbery. <br> <br> Sgt. Mark Rich shot Jayme Lamont Grate of Midway after he turned on the officer with a rifle, police said. <br> <br> Officers shouted at Grate to drop his weapon before Rich fired, witnesses told the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. <br> <br> Rich is on administrative leave with pay while the shooting is being investigated. <br> <br> Grate was suspected of holding up clerks at a TA Travel Center near the motel and taking a ``substantial&#39;&#39; amount of cash. <br> <br> A suspected accomplice, 19-year-old Thaddeus Antoine Miller of Midway, was arrested and charged with armed robbery. <br> <br> GBI agents said police are investigating whether the same pair was involved in a similar robbery at the TA Travel Center on Dec. 21.
