FOLKSTON - A 23-year-old Charlton County sheriff's deputy was killed Monday in a one-car traffic accident.
Deputy Adam Reid Fleshner, who had been with the Charlton County Sheriff's Office for five years, was on his way to a crime scene in St. George, near the Florida line, to back up other deputies.

Fleshner lost control of his patrol car inside the city limits of Folkston and crashed into a tree, said Ginger Herrin, an operator for the Georgia State Patrol post in Waycross.
Fleshner, who lived in Folkston, was declared dead at the scene.
There were initial reports that another car swerved in front of Fleshner's car and caused the accident, but Herrin said no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
