SAVANNAH - A former Chatham County lawyer who was disbarred in 1983 for defrauding clients has been charged with writing bad checks.
Reginald C. ``Bubba'' Haupt Jr., 63, was arrested Friday on seven counts of first-degree forgery. Richmond Hill police arrested him on an outstanding warrant issued in Chatham County.
Haupt went into business with the Blue Crab restaurant and worked there as a manager, Chatham County police said. Authorities accuse Haupt of writing several unauthorized checks in September. He was arraigned Monday afternoon.
In 1983, the state Supreme Court disbarred Haupt for defrauding clients. He also was convicted of stealing money from clients.
Haupt, who was sentenced to two years in prison, went into Christian ministry after his release Dec. 20, 1985.
