ATLANTA - A new bill in the state House would allow gardeners to kill deer that nibble on their plants.
The bill would let private gardeners kill deer out of season, as long as they apply to the Department of Natural Resources for a permit.
Currently only commercial farmers are allowed to kill deer year-round if the deer eat their crops.
The bill's sponsor -- Representative Curtis Jenkins of Forsyth -- says repellents and electric fences can be expensive and aren't always effective.
If the bill is approved, gardeners would have to apply for permission to kill the deer and then report to the state how many deer they have killed.
