SAVANNAH - A Savannah city councilman recovering from a crash that killed a woman admits he drank alcohol before getting behind the wheel.
City Alderman David Jones says he had ``a couple'' of drinks before driving. But he says he wasn't intoxicated and the crash was not his fault.
Jones was driving home late Monday when his pickup truck crashed head-on with another car on a two-lane road. The impact killed the second driver -- 45-year-old Ola Brown of Savannah.
Jones maintains that- he stayed in his lane and the Brown's car veered toward him.
Savannah police Lieutenant Jimmy Stevens has said alcohol may have been involved.
No charges have been filed by police. Police say toxicology tests on blood samples from both drivers -- required by state law in serious crashes -- may take a month or longer.
