HAYNESVILLE - The Houston County town of Hayneville could soon add an ``s'' to its official name and become Haynesville.
All but one person who spoke at a town meeting Tuesday said they wanted the change.
Most official maps and documents dating to the 19th century list the town as Hayneville without an ``s.''
But longtime resident William ``Hoke'' Harper -- who died in October at the age of 91 -- argued that the state Department of Transportation dropped a letter when it replaced some road signs in the 1970s.
The state DOT has said it will change the signs to ``Haynesville'' if the Houston County Commission approves. Commissioners hope to decide at a meeting February 16.
