Luxury-car broker pleads guilty to fraud

By
SAVANNAH - A former luxury-car broker pleaded guilty to defrauding several banks in his business deals in 1998.

Hamid Shirazi Golshani on Friday admitted in U.S. District Court to one count each of bank fraud and mail fraud.

Golshani's February 2000 indictment alleged he received financing from SunTrust and other banks to deliver cars from dealerships around the country to his clients. But he never paid the dealers, who then repossessed their cars. The banks picked up the tab, with SunTrust losing about $118,000 in November and December 1998.

Golshani, who also went by the name Eugene Vincent Moore, had been on the FBI's most wanted fugitive list before his arrest.

A date for his sentencing has not been set. He could face up to 35 years in prison and a $1.25 million fine.
