Belmont holds off short-handed Mercer

MACON - Brian Collins scored 17 points, and Adam Sonn added 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead Belmont to a 69-67 Atlantic Sun Conference victory over Mercer Monday night. <br> <br> Belmont (10-9, 5-2 ASUN) trailed 26-20 with 4:45 left in the first half, but a 16-2 run gave the Bruins a 36-28 lead at intermission. <br> <br> Mercer (11-5, 5-2), playing without All-Conference player Scott Emerson (food poisoning), was down by 12, 59-47, with 6:07 remaining. The Bears rallied to bring the score to 69-67, but a 3-point attempt by Clarence Baker at the buzzer glanced off the rim. <br> <br> Aleem Muhammad scored 18 points to lead Mercer. Wesley Duke had 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
