Georgia Southern freshman recovering from bacterial meningitis

STATESBORO - A freshman at Georgia Southern University has been hospitalized with bacterial meningitis. <br> <br> Esli Saint-Louis was listed in good condition Tuesday at a Savannah hospital. <br> <br> Hospital officials say 18-year-old Saint-Louis had a clear sign of bacterial meningitis, an infection of spinal-cord fluid and the fluid surrounding the brain. The infection also can be caused by a virus. <br> <br> Saint-Louis was taken to the hospital Thursday and was unconscious. Since then his condition has improved, and doctors say he may not suffer significant damage. <br> <br> Research has shown college students living in dorms have an increased risk for the disease. Since Friday, 116 Georgia Southern students have been given prescriptions for an antibiotic to prevent more cases.
