DECATUR - A DeKalb County man has been convicted of murder in the slaying of a woman whose body was seen dragging from a car along Interstate 20 early last year, District Attorney J. Tom Morgan said Friday.
Andre Preston, 21, also was convicted of the fatal shooting of a man who was found dead in the passenger seat after Preston abandoned the car following a police chase.

He received two life sentences this week, Morgan said.
A DeKalb police officer, Sgt. Mark Lewis, saw the car pull out of an apartment complex dragging the body of Lenita Howard entangled in a seat belt.

Preston led Lewis and other officers on a three-mile chase while continuing to drag the body. He stopped on I-20 and fled into nearby woods but was captured a short time later.

Preston had shot Howard three times with .44-caliber Magnum before pulling her body from behind the wheel and dumping it beside the car, unaware that she was caught in the seatbelt.
He also killed Danyon Walker with a single shot to the head.
