COLUMBUS - A Phenix City, Ala. man has been charged with felony forgery after signing his wife's name on a divorce document.
Gregory Kennedy filed a divorce decree in April with his signature and a forged signature of his wife, Tammy Kennedy. He remarried in June without her knowledge.
Witnesses say the divorce document was notarized by a friend of his new wife at a Columbus jewelry store. Police are not sure if the second wife was aware of the forgery.
Tammy Kennedy, 39, learned in July from a friend that she ``didn't have to worry about'' her estranged husband anymore because he had remarried and would likely be busy with his new life.
She thought that was impossible. She couldn't remember going through divorce proceedings with her husband or signing divorce papers.
``I mean how can you have another wedding when you're not even divorced yet?'' Tammy Kennedy said.
Gregory Kennedy was released from the Muscogee County jail on a $1,500 bond last week.
