COLUMBUS - A Columbus woman arrested on a shoplifting charge shimmied out of her handcuffs and later her trousers as she led police on a short chase.
Keshia L. Johnson, 24, was outside the Muscogee County Jail when she maneuvered the cuffs in front of her and ran to a fence topped by razor wire. Officers warned her she'd be hurt if she tried to climb over it, but Johnson told them she didn't care. She climbed over and ran.
A few minutes later, police found Johnson on a nearby street corner. She had removed her pants and was running down the street wearing only a T-shirt and underwear. The razor wire had cut her left leg and arm severely.
Police took Johnson back into custody and sent her to a hospital for treatment. She now faces two misdemeanor theft by taking charges - one for the alleged shoplifting incident and one for stealing police handcuffs - as well as an escape charge.
