Georgia Tech going back in time for UConn game

ATLANTA - This Saturday, the Georgia Tech football team will get a taste of small-college football.

The Yellow Jackets will travel to Connecticut, where the Division I-A Huskies are playing their final season at the 16,000 seat Memorial Stadium.

This weekend was intended to be open for Tech. But athletic director Dave Braine says Middle Tennessee State neglected to tell him that it was scheduled to play Tennessee this weekend.

After scrambling for weeks to find an opponent, Braine turned to UConn, which agreed to host the Yellow Jackets in exchange for two future Huskies dates in Atlanta.

The first phase of the Bobby Dodd Stadium renovations, which will expand seating to 55,000, finished ahead of schedule. But the trip to Storrs had already been set.

None of this matters to Georgia Tech coach Chan Gailey, who says everyone but the players seemed to be talking about it. He says his players are concerned only with winning.
