Former East Hall basketball standout Mark Causey is leaving Duke University and has transferred to North Georgia College & State University.
Mark Causey walked on to the famed Blue Devil basketball team after a stellar four-year basketball career at East Hall.
As a senior at East Hall, Causey averaged 26.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.6 steals and 2.7 assists and shot 59.9 percent from the field, including 41.9 percent from the three-point arc. Mark and his younger brother Matt Causey led the Vikings to a 30-2 record and the Georgia 2A Championship in 2000-2001
At Duke, Causey saw limited playing time but became a crowd favorite at Cameron Indoor Stadium for his hard work on both ends of the court. He averaged 1.1 points and 0.7 rebounds per game in the 12 appearances as a Blue Devil. Causey saw a season high three minutes of action at Georgia Tech in February of this year in Atlanta.
North Georgia College & State University Head Basketball Coach Randy Dunn said the Causey transfer happened in the period of a week.
"All the things combined, he just thought North Georgia might be the best thing for him right now which I was glad to hear", said Coach Dunn.
Causey will join North Hall graduate Ryan Franklin and will be eligible to play immediately for the Saints due to a one time transfer waiver with the NAIA.
Coach Dunn is looking forward to this year's basketball season, " I am really excited with Mark coming in and the other great players we have signed, I am really looking forward to it", said Coach Dunn.
Mark's younger brother Matt will be playing for the Georgetown Hoyas.
