Seminoles taking advantage of some down time

TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA - Florida State's freshmen and less-experienced players will get more opportunities in practice this week, with the starters getting a bit of a rest.

The Seminoles' starters and top reserves practiced for about 50 minutes Tuesday, before those players on the lower tiers of the depth chart scrimmaged for the remainder of practice.

``It was good for them because it is about the only way they can get (game action),'' coach Bobby Bowden said.

Fifth-ranked Florida State (2-0) is off until visiting Maryland on Sept. 14. That game will begin a stretch where the Seminoles will play 12 times in 13 weeks.

Bowden said freshman running back Lorenzo Booker, who was redshirted at his request last week, was impressive during the scrimmage.

``He's got to be one of the quickest kids weve ever had here,'' Bowden said.

Besides getting some of the younger players into some more game situations, Florida State will use the week to get some key players healthy.

Starting defensive tackles Darnell Dockett and Jeff Womble, who are both nursing leg injuries, will spend most of the week concentrating on rehabilitation.

``We just want to keep on being lucky,'' Bowden said, referring to the lack of major injuries. ``Every year you see some team that has bunch of people go down. Last year that was us and I just hope we can stay healthy this year.''
