ATLANTA - While Greg Gathers holds Georgia Tech's all-time sack record, Tony Hargrove has the talent to break it. But for either one to accomplish their goals, they need each other.
Gathers, Tech's All-American defensive end, is five sacks from the ACC record, currently held by Virginia's Chris Slade and Florida State's Reinard Wilson.
He told the Macon Telegraph he wants to win a championship and leave a mark on Georgia Tech. And he is looking to the rest of the defensive line to help him reach his goals.
So after last season Gathers pulled Hargrove, then a freshman, to the side and said, ``I need you to work.'' Ever since then, Gathers has spent time with Hargrove, explaining blocking schemes, giving tips, forcing his young pupil to pay attention.
Last week in practice, Hargrove, while rushing the passer, jumped, smothered the ball at his waist and outran everybody to the end zone. He had four tackles and a sack, his third career, against Vanderbilt.
