ATLANTA - Georgians will share in homeland defense and prepare themselves to assist in disasters under a program announced by Governor Roy Barnes.
Barnes says the state plans to participate in President Bush's Citizen Corps, which aims to train average Americans to help police and rescue agencies in emergencies.
Barnes says local Citizen Corps councils will train and organize response teams to prepare business and neighborhoods for every disaster.
The program will also include training a civilian medical-reserve corps for situations in which medical professionals are overwhelmed.
