AUGUSTA - A Christian television station replaced the co-host of a youth music show after learning the man had been charged with sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy he was mentoring.

Steven E. Kuehne, 33, of Hephzibah, was charged late Wednesday with felony aggravated child molestation. He is accused of performing oral sex on the Grovetown teen, who was staying at his home Sunday night.

Kuehne was a part-time master control operator for WBPI-TV, Channel 49. He recently became co-host of a new TV program called Roc House Cafe, a weekly, hourlong show that airs Friday nights and features Christian music videos.

``We want to get out in the community and make a positive image for Christians,'' Kuehne told The Augusta Chronicle in an August interview.

Different church youth groups participate in the taping at the North Augusta studios. A pre-taped show featuring Kuehne and scheduled to air this Friday has been pulled, station president Dorothy Spaulding said.

Kuehne was held without bond Thursday night in the Richmond County Jail. The boy's mother reported the incident to Richmond County authorities Wednesday.

Church officials said the 13-year-old attended New Life Christian Center and was in and out of trouble. Kuehne volunteered there.

``The mother concluded that Steve might be able to discipline him and get him on the right track,'' the Rev. Maxwell said.

``He was aspiring to be a youth minister,'' said Phillip Maxwell, an associate pastor at New Life. ``He's been at the church for more than three years, and we've never had an incident, never had a question.''
