STATESBORO - Jermaine Austin ran for 160 yards and two touchdowns, leading Georgia Southern and new coach Mike Sewak to a 56-0 victory over Gardner-Webb on Saturday night. <br>

Quarterback Chaz Williams gained 120 yards on the ground and Hakim Ford added 106, part of a 591-yard effort for the Eagles (1-1). Williams also scored two touchdowns, and T.J. Anderson, Melvin Cox and Trey Hunter added one apiece. <br>

It was Georgia Southern's home opener. <br>

Jeremy Martin threw for 120 yards for the Bulldogs (1-1) but it hardly was enough. They rushed for only 58 yards. <br>

Georgia Southern broke out to a 14-0 lead with two quick scores in the first five minutes of the game, powered by a running attack that racked up 210 yards on 19 attempts in the first quarter. T.J. Anderson ran 61 yards for the first touchdown, and Austin scampered 55 yards on the next drive. <br>

A blocked punt by David Young set up the next score, with Williams gaining the final 6 yards for a 21-0 lead. Young scooped up a fumble and returned it 34 yards, and Williams added his second TD, running 10 yards late in the half to give the Eagles a 35-0 lead. <br>

After Austin scored his second touchdown late in the third quarter, reserves Trey Hunter and Melvin Cox added the final two scores.
