VALDOSTA - A Lowndes County grand jury has declined to pursue charges against a Valdosta man who was accused of murder.
William M. Snyder, 33, was charged with murder in the June 7 death of Edgar W. Scott II, 29.

Scott forced his way into Snyder's home after he had been asked to leave, District Attorney David Miller said. Scott reportedly pushed Snyder, who then struck Scott in the head with a metal fire poker.
Georgia law provides that actions even the use of deadly force taken to defend a home or habitat are justified and exempt from prosecution. That could have been a factor in the grand jury's deliberations, Miller said.
The men had been involved in a child-custody battle, investigators said.
